Tooth Supported Crown
A dental crown, often referred to as a cap, is used to restore a tooth that has a large area of decay or large existing dental restoration that has failed and is no longer a good candidate to have a dental filling as a replacement. Crowns are also beneficial on a tooth that has had a root canal.
The process of a crown is often completed in two appointments. While some teeth can be restored with a Cerec (same day) crown, Dr. Rebottaro makes that distinction on a tooth-by-tooth basis. During the first visit, Dr. Rebottaro will prepare your tooth for the crown making sure all of the decay is removed. Then he will take a scan of the tooth and send it to our trusted local lab for the crown to be made. In the meantime you will wear a temporary crown made of acrylic. It is important that you contact our office should your temporary crown come off prior to your scheduled return appointment. In just a few weeks, once the new crown is fabricated, Dr. Rebottaro will permanently cement it to your tooth.
There are different materials for making crowns, like all-ceramic, ceramic fused to metal, or even gold. Dr. Rebottaro will make his recommendation and review the benefits and options with you at the time of your exam. How long a crown lasts can vary, but most can stay in good shape for up to 10-20 years with proper biting conditions and home care.
Dental Bridges
A dental bridge serves a similar purpose as dental crowns, but its primary role is to fill the gap left by one or more missing teeth. While dental implants are often the preferred choice for replacing missing teeth, there are situations where Dr. Rebottaro may recommend a dental bridge as a more suitable option for your specific needs. A bridge is composed of multiple parts, including a pontic that replaces the missing tooth or teeth and anchor crowns known as abutments on either side. Once it’s placed, a dental bridge is fixed in your mouth, meaning you can’t take it in and out like dentures. Our dental bridges are crafted by highly skilled technicians, and with proper care, they can provide lasting results for many years.
Dental Implants
A dental implant is a remarkable dental restoration option that offers a lasting solution for replacing missing teeth. Whether you’re missing a single tooth, several teeth, or even an entire mouthful, dental implants can be the ideal choice. They consist of three main components: the titanium implant post, which is surgically placed into the jawbone; the abutment, which connects the implant post to the prosthetic tooth; and the crown, bridge, or denture, which serves as the visible, functional tooth replacement. At Rebottaro Family Dentistry, we are fortunate to have an esteemed specialist, Dr. Philip Vassilopoulos, on our team, who expertly handles the surgical portion of dental implant placement. After the implant has been securely positioned by Dr. Vassilopoulos, Dr. Brandon and Dr. Michael Rebottaro take over to restore the implant with a prosthetic tooth. Our practice utilizes cutting-edge dental technology, including digital CBCT X-rays, to ensure a predictable and successful surgical implant outcome, allowing our patients to enjoy the benefits of a natural-looking and fully functional smile.
Inlay / Onlay
Inlays and onlays are dental restorations that cover back teeth. The difference between an inlay and an onlay is that an inlay covers a fairly small part of the biting surface of a back tooth while an onlay extends over the biting surface and on to other parts of the tooth. Both of these restorations are cemented into place and cannot be taken off.
Porcelain Inlays and Onlays restore a tooth to its natural size, shape, and color. When a tooth has decay on the top, chewing portion of the tooth but the walls are intact, it is usually a good candidate for an inlay or a dental composite filling. An inlay, which is made at a lab, is a more durable and typically longer lasting restoration than a composite filling. When a tooth has a more significant amount of decay, has a failing large existing filling, or has parts of the tooth that have broken off, it may be a good candidate for an onlay which preserves more of the natural tooth structure than a full coverage crown, and would last just as long. Not every tooth that has been identified as needing a crown would be eligible for an onlay. Dr. Rebottaro will review the benefits of an inlay or onlay with you to help you make the decision regarding the best option for your restorative needs.
Composite Tooth Colored Fillings
A tooth-colored composite filling is a bonded restoration used to repair decayed or damaged teeth or change their shape. The filling is composed of tooth-colored resins that are carefully designed to match the natural color and blend seamlessly with your tooth. The filling process is completed in one appointment, and involves using light-sensitive adhesive particles that bond these components together, enabling Dr. Rebottaro to shape and sculpt the material beautifully and effectively.
This composite material can also be applied to a tooth to alter its shape (dental bonding), enhancing your smile’s overall look.
Root Canal Therapy
It is indeed unfortunate when a tooth requires a root canal procedure, but the silver lining lies in the significant advancements made in endodontics and dental technology over the past few years. A root canal, in essence, is a dental procedure designed to eliminate pain and infection. The process involves removing the infected pulp tissue from the tooth’s interior, disinfecting it, and sealing it to prevent any further infection. Thanks to cutting-edge technology and improved techniques, the process has become quicker and more painless than ever before. We can accomplish many root canal procedures in house, though if needed we can also help to coordinate care with a trusted local Endodontic Specialist to ensure you are seen promptly and your comfort is restored.
